A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a wealth of activities much better than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and using meditation skills to not snapping at relatives. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements came out during the festive period, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Truly the most surprising revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio known for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
