Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
