Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the team's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
